Extension of Langman's psychological theory of school shooters.
Kasalová, Petra ; Heider, David (advisor) ; Frombergerová, Anna (referee)
This bachelor thesis deals with the topic of school shootings. It is based on psychologically oriented research studies focused on the shooter's personality, especially on the theory of Peter Langman. The first part of thesis, among other school shooting theories, describes and discusses in detail Langman's categorization system. The next part focuses on the analysis of five shooters after 2011, specifically John Zawahri, Jessie Osborne, Nikolas Cruz, Bryan Oliver and Robert Gladden. In addition, these cases are divided into attacks in which killing took place and attempted attacks in which no one was killed. Research questions concern the applicability of post-2011 cases to Langman's categorization and the differences between deadly and attempted attacks. The results of the thesis confirm the applicability of Langman's theory to the five early mentioned cases after 2011 and offer the possibility of a minor extension of the theory. Czech gun-owner platforms and mass shooting events: framing analysis

Such events usually spark debates about stricter gun control which the Czech gun-owner platforms naturally oppose. The analysis is underpinned by the theory of framing and uses a methodological design proposed by the scholars Dennis Chong and James Druckman. Firstly, a basic set of frames is identified. Secondly, these frames are tested against a collection of posts and articles by one of the analyzed groups. It is concluded that most of the texts are explicitly framed using one of the identified communication frames. However, the usage of these frames varies based on the motives behind a given mass shooting. It also differs in the case of Czech incidents. Lastly, this work investigates whether and in what way the frames of gun-owner platforms are adopted by elites and the mainstream media and. In this case, a surprising conclusion is made: Despite the ideal framing environment - given the absence of...
